Every ship in ftl can become strong eventually with the right weapons and upgrades just as every civilization can become powerful in the civ games and every champion can dominate in league of legends with enough gold. Starting weapons can only be found aboard the ship that has them i include crystal weapons because getting to the crystal sector to buy them is an extremely rare and difficult.
